Judge Bob Brotherton sentenced former Wichita Falls Police Officer Teddie Whitefield to eight years in the Texas penitentiary Tuesday after finding him guilty of manslaughter. Under Texas law, Whitefield was eligible for probation with no jail time at all since he had no prior felony convictions.

Although some areas of Texas have received plentiful rains over the past several months, conditions from abnormally dry to exceptional drought still plague several areas of the state.
