Two Mommies, two viewpoints

A playful picture book about a little girl named Heather and her two happy mommies was a cultural and legal flashpoint 25 years ago, stirring debate over the morality of same-sex parenting and landing libraries at the center of community battles over placement of the book in the children's stacks. In time, Heather -- of Heather Has Two Mommies -- gained a lot of company, as books for children about different kinds of families proliferated.

Wichita Falls Police arrested a man after they say they found the evidence of a crime stuffed down his pants. WFPD Patrol Officers responded to the 1100 Block of Ridgeway on Wednesday morning around 2:30 a.m. for a call about a vehicle burglary in progress.

According to the arrest affidavit, police responded to the 5400 block of Flo Drive in Wichita Falls on a check welfare call regarding a 14-year-old child. The child, who police say is the victim in this case, told police that 40-year-old Victor Hugo Herrera-Salazar had taken a video of the victim while in the shower.

The state attorney general says a federal judge in Texas has declined a U.S. Justice Department request to reconsider his order temporarily blocking federal rules expanding medical leave benefits to some gay couples. Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton announced Friday that U.S. District Judge Reed O'Connor in Wichita Falls declined to dissolve his own injunction, issued March 26. O'Connor's order has temporarily stopped expansion of the definition of "spouse" under the Family and Medical Leave Act to include same-sex couples.

Two Arrested for Burglary of a Habitation

Around 5:00 a.m. on Monday morning, officers with the Wichita Falls Police Department were dispatched to the 1800 block of Huff in reference to checking on a suspicious person. Witnesses advised police that they observed two males, one wearing a Bengal's jersey and the other wearing a blue and white shirt, pull up to the residence in a green Chevrolet pickup truck.
