Sen. Craig Estes was about to lay out a bill that would protect religious objections to gay marriage but was told he couldn't do it because Sen. Jose Menendez had blocked the proposed legislation, though just temporarily. Menendez, D-San Antonio, blocked Estes' Senate Bill 2065 because it was filed Tuesday evening and Estes didn't post the notice of a public hearing at least 48 hours in advance, as legislative rules require.

James West of Wichita Falls is still recovering in a Fort Worth Hospital after he was hit by an 18 drunk driver while riding his motorcycle on the Sheppard Access Road in Wichita Falls. According to police West was driving his motorcycle down the Sheppard Access Road near the intersection of Industrial Boulevard when an intoxicated 18 year old driving a Nissan Titan Pickup hit West.

Several power outages occurred in Texoma on Tuesday, causing many residents to be left in the dark. According to Oncor officials, several of the power outages were due to lightning strikes, and a previous power outage that occurred on Tuesday morning was reported to be caused by a car hitting a power pole located on the intersection of 9th and Kitchens Street.

County eyeing maintenance on rain-soaked, damaged dirt roads

Nick Olenik, director of public works, said heavy rain like the county experienced this week has a major impact on dirt roads, not just from causing mush at the time of rain, but also the lasting effect, "Our paved roads do suffer as well," Olenik said of heavy rainfall, "but the big concerns and complaints immediately are the rutted, muddy roads." As those living on country roads know, rain has the potential to leave tire trenches, uneven surfaces, small ditches and objects in the roadway.
