24 greyhounds stolen from North Texas dog pound found

Two dozen Italian Greyhounds seized in a raid on a suspected North Texas puppy mill have been recovered after they were stolen from an animal shelter. Authorities say they believe the 24 greyhounds, some of national champion quality, were stolen around daybreak Thursday from a temporary shelter in Iowa Park, about 10 miles west of Wichita Falls.

Iowa Park, Texas officials have recovered most of the stolen Italian greyhounds seized earlier in the week from the 200 block of South Bond Street. The dogs had been living in unsanitary conditions in a warehouse and thought to have been part of a puppy mill as rescuers could hardly breathe and avoid stepping on dog feces and urine as they removed the dogs, reports the Texoma's HomePage.

Texas, Kansas and Louisiana filed suit in federal district court in Wichita Falls, Texas, against the federal government, particularly the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Internal Revenue Service, seeking a court order that prevents collection of the new Health Insurance Providers Fees assessed against companies that manage state Medicaid or Children's Health Insurance programs. The states allege that the new fees, which are required by the Affordable Care Act and are legally required to be passed on to the states, constitute a de facto tax on state treasuries.
