Thursday night's storms leaves 3,000 without power

The storms from Thursday night and Friday morning left many Texomans in the dark, and as of Friday evening, Oncor reports about 665 customers are still without power. Gordon Drake, Oncor's Area Manager, said this is an improvement from the estimated 3,000 customers that were in the dark as the storms moved through the area.


Local energy employees help areas hit by Hurricane Matthew

About 450 Oncor employees and contractors were sent out around six Thursday morning to areas in the hurricane's path to help restore power, and about ten of those workers are from Texoma. Around five Friday evening Florida Governor Rick Scott announced one million homes were without power in that state, and when it comes to natural disasters those impacted by the storms, like some Florida residents, need all the help they can get to get electricity back up and running.

Fire officials say a man who apparently was sleeping in a dumpster survived when he and the trash in the bin were dumped into a trash truck, compacted and then hauled to a transfer station. Workers at the transfer station in Wichita Falls saw the man tumble Friday from the truck into a large garbage pit.
