How Bandera came about

In my research through the archives of Bandera County I have seen some mighty interesting documents, but one of the most fascinating documents I have found, was an original letter from E. C. de Montel to J. Marvin Hunter dated August 23, 1935, which was in a box of old documents that Gail Joiner gave me to go through. Montel was a lawyer and later County Judge of Wichita Falls, Texas.

When the temperature is a mere 70 degrees at 6 a.m. with forecast highs a paltry 90, we tend to think - with selective seasonal amnesia - we have summer licked. How hot can it get, really? And besides, we shrug, won't the breathtaking blue sky and the jaw-dropping sunsets make up for any heat that accompanies our outdoor workout? Yet avoiding the heat altogether and watching Netflix from the confines of your cool couch - even while performing a perfunctory sit-up or two - is not the way to stay healthy and active this summer.

Two people are behind bars after law enforcement officials found nearly 70 grams of methamphetamine in a Wichita Falls motel. On Tuesday, Wichita County District Attorney's Office Drug Enforcement Division Investigators served a search warrant at a room in the Motel 6 on the 1200 block of Broad Street.

A 7-year-old boy recently died several days after teenagers found him floating in a lake near Wichita Falls. Michael Ondricek was pronounced dead at Cook Children's Medical Center in Fort Worth at 12:40 a.m. Friday, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner.

A Vernon man died and his passenger sustained life-threatening injuries during a rollover Friday in Hall County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety Harkey was driving northbound on U.S. Highway 287 a mile east of Estelline around 11:32 a.m when the front left tire of the 2001 Ford pickup he was driving blew out. Harkey lost control of the pickup and crossed into the southbound lanes of traffic.

Around 5:00 a.m. officers with the Wichita Falls Police Department's Organized Crime Unit and SWAT team members served a narcotic search warrant at a room in the motel located on the 600 block of Central Freeway East. During a search of the room, officers found several small plastic bags that had a clear crystal-like substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine.
