Veterans feel honored by Vietnam Memorial

The fundraising project began back in July of 2016 by the Major Francis Grice Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. The idea to build this memorial to honor all veterans was brought up to the Lake Wichita Revitalization Committee, who then presented it to the Wichita Falls City Council.

An Australian national, 22-year-old Timothy Jaroszczuk, was arrested for possession of cocaine just before the 4th of July weekend while traveling through Bowie on U.S. 287 in Montague County. For most, summer is about having fun and soaking up the sun, but in Wichita County, sheriff's deputies say they're not worried about catching some rays as much as they're worried about catching drug traffickers.

Around 5:50 p.m. an SUV was traveling north on Central Freeway just past Holliday Creek when the driver tried to change lanes. Wichita Falls Police said the lane was already occupied so the driver overcorrected to the left then to the right causing the SUV to rollover.

Juan Leonardo Tello, 50, of Dallas, Texas was sentenced by U.S. Judge Reed O'Connor following his guilty plea in March 2017 to one count of Conspiracy to Distribute Five Grams or More of Methamphetamine. Tello was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison.

The Adult Literacy and Education Program at Region 9 is hosting a High School Equivalency orientation for the 2017-2018 adult academic year for residents in Wichita Falls and Burkburnett. It is going to be held at the Region 9 Education Service Center on Loop 11 on August 21 and 22 from 9:00 a.m. to noon or 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Students are required to attend both days of orientation.

Starting this school year Wichita Falls Independent School District students will benefit from a $660,000 reading program, and it is all thanks to the generosity of the McCoy Foundation out of Wichita Falls. "We are just honored the McCoy Foundation thinks that much of WFISD students," said Superintendent Michael Kuhrt, with the Wichita Falls ISD.
