Things are still okay in the area with not much freezing on roadways reported. We've gotten a few reports of a thin glaze of ice on elevated surfaces and some flurries but drier air has moved in keeping drizzle and fog to a minimum.

On Monday, January 1 at 8:45 pm, officers were called to the 1200 block of Ridgeway Drive to the Maurine Street Apartments for a report of gunshots. When they arrived, officers found an unresponsive black man lying on the ground.

Sheriff's offices throughout Texoma are frustrated and looking for answers after the phone lines in Jack, Young, Montague, Archer, and Clay counties lost service. Some lost their emergency lines, while others lost just regular service.Service was lost Tuesday from 11:20 am to 9 pm and it's the fourth time a phone line has been cut in the last six weeks.

Relatives report inadequate heating at more than 30 Texas prisons

The Texas Inmate Families Association, a support and advocacy group, compiled reports by inmates' relatives that blamed poor insulation, broken windows and nonfunctioning heaters for the cold conditions in the facilities. Several of the advocacy group's members reported that prison officials had recently fixed broken heaters at their loved ones' facilities, but many continued to report problems with prison heating Wednesday.

Woman arrested for alleged injury to a child

Around 11:46 a.m. on Wednesday, officers with the Wichita Falls Police Department were called out to the 1200 block of North 5th Street in reference to a possible injury of a child. When officers arrived on the scene, a witness told them Kristina Lopez, 35, strike the victim with her foot and then hit the victim with a broomstick in the minor's arm.

Man sentenced to 5 years for intoxicated manslaughter

A Wichita Falls man was sentenced to five years in prison following a wreck that took the life of 33-year-old Brandon Eddington. Danny Lee Garrett, Jr. 35, took a promise plea on Friday morning in the 89th District Court for an intoxicated manslaughter charge.

WFPD hosts ceremony for retirement, promotion

A special ceremony to celebrate promotions and retirements was held Friday morning at the Wichita Falls Police Department training center. Honorees included; Leann Hall, who is retiring after serving 32 years for the WFPD, and Paul Newton, who was previously awarded the department's Life-Saving Bar was promoted to sergeant.

DWFD announced on its website on Friday that Wichita Falls native Jana Schmader will fill the role following Cynthia Laney's retirement in October 2017. According to DWFD, Schmader graduated from MSU with a bachelor of Business Administration.
