First UMC to host "Souper" Bowl Sunday

The First United Methodist Church of Wichita Falls and the food bank are partnering up to help feed people in need. During worship services on January 28 which start at 6:30 a.m., the church will be handing out paper bags that hold 4-6 soup cans a piece and asking members to fill them and return them on February 4. "I'm really happy about it," said Pastor Georgia Harrison.


The driver, Jonathan Thomas Hutchison, 25, died at the hospital according to police.

Around 3 p.m. WFPD officers pulled over Donald Spence, 63, at 8th Street and Denver for running a stop sign near the Denver Alternative Education school. During the traffic stop, police said Spence gave them permission to search him.

A child molester who got life in prison this week for impregnating a teenager he started abusing in second grade heard his own words to that victim repeated to him before the sentence. Juan Antonio Rodriguez, 35, of Wichita Falls was convicted on two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child and one count of sexual assault of a child, according to the Wichita Falls Times Record News .

Thousands of breakfast lovers got their flapjack fix at the 62nd annual University Kiwanis Club Pancake Festival in Wichita Falls on Saturday.The event was held at J.S. Bridwell Agricultural Center. It took less than 400 volunteers to make sure 11,000 people had plenty to eat.

A Wichita Falls woman is accused of leaving 13 dogs to fend for themselves without water and with hardly any food in an uninhabited apartment covered in feces and urine, according to the Wichita Falls Times Record News . Angel Bright Sargent, 33, is being held in the Wichita County jail in lieu of $18,000 bail after she was arrested Saturday, jail records show.

Numerous firefighters were out in Burkburnett Wednesday afternoon getting some training on a new brush truck the Burkburnett Volunteer Fire Department is adding to their fleet after long months of waiting. The brush truck was custom built by BFX Fire Apparatus out of Weatherford, Texas and took about a year to get it finalized.

It was held at the Judge Arthur R Tipps Juvenile Justice Center in downtown Wichita Falls where a courtroom is now named after Judge Brotherton all because of his many years of service. "When I became a judge in 1989 I was hoping that being a judge rather than being an attorney I could make more of a difference," Brotherton said.
