When summer begins in a couple of weeks many kids who rely on meals at school will be turning to places like the Southside South Senter. It is one-of-nine locations throughout Wichita Falls, starting June 8, where kids 18 years and younger can go to eat a hot and nutritious meal for free as a part of the Wichita Falls Area Food Bank's Summer Feeding Program.

WateReuse Applauds Federal Funding For Water Reuse Projects

The WateReuse Association applauds Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell's recent announcement that the federal government will invest $50M in water reuse and conservation projects in 12 western states. The funding comes from the Bureau of Reclamation's WaterSmart program, which has provided about $250M in funding since 2010.

Greg Abbott, the 48th governor of Texas, returned to his hometown of Wichita Falls Monday and declared it in a state of disaster so the area can receive additional resources to counter the devastation wreaked by the unexpected flooding. Abbott, who swept into office by virtue of a dominating victory in the governor's election last November, has recently completed his first 100 days in office.

DFW may get a break from rain next week

It's rained 14 of 25 days this month in Dallas-Fort Worth, and while there's a decent chance for storms through Monday, the endless rounds of rain may taper off early next week. "As we get toward the end of May, it looks like we may get a break in what has been a very persistent pattern," said Tom Bradshaw, meteorologist in charge at the National Weather Service in Fort Worth.

May Has Been Wettest Month Ever In Texas, Says Texas A&M Expert

If you think it has rained a lot in the last few weeks in Texas, your hunch is correct. Figures from the Office of the State Climatologist at Texas A&M University show that the month of May has been the wettest month ever in the state's history, averaging 7.54 inches, besting the previous record of 6.66 inches in June of 2004.
