Weather whiplash: Texas goes from extreme drought to floods in 3 weeks

Just three weeks ago, large parts of Texas and Oklahoma were still locked in the grips of an unrelenting, multi-year drought, with parts of Texas classified as being in "exceptional drought" conditions - the worst possible category. Now, thanks to historic rainfall that shows no sign of letting up anytime soon, these areas, along with parts of Arkansas, Kansas, Nebraska and other states, are coping with dangerous flooding.

A Wichita Falls organization is helping those who have lost items that are not easily replaced due to the floods. Disaster Helping Hands is a local organization that has been helping families that have been affected by both natural and manmade disasters since 2006, supplying them with food, furniture and appliances in their time of need.

From the Wichita Falls Parks and Recreation Department: -Due to the flooding and lack of power in Lucy Park the Lucy Park Pool will not be open for the Memorial Day weekend. Weather and conditions permitting, the pool will be open the following weekend Saturday May 30th and Sunday May 31st, from noon to 6:00 p.m. Splash Day is Saturday, June 6th from noon to 6:00 p.m. After June 6th the pool will be open seven days a week from noon to 6:00 p.m. -Due to inclement weather, the Friday Night Live Band Dance at the 50 Plus Zone has been cancelled for tonight Friday, May 22nd.
