Wichita Falls Police on Tuesday released information about a mother, Amber Rose Smith, 22, of Burkburnett, arrested the night before an charged with continuous family violence, injury to a child and possession of a controlled substance - specifically methamphetamine. A police statement said, "Officers responded to the 2500 block of Inglewood in reference to a family disturbance in which a toddler had been injured after being punched in the face."

The U.S. Supreme Court voted today, Saturday, Oct. 18 to allow Texas to use the new voter ID law in the governor's election for which early voting begins Monday, according to a release from the Texas Attorney General's Office today. The law applies to all elections in the Lone Star State, but the highest profile race is that between Greg Abbott of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Wendy Davis of Fort Worth.

3rd person dies of injuries from helicopter crash

Erasmus "Johan" van der Colff IV of Wichita Falls died Wednesday night of his injuries, becoming the third person to die from the crash of the medical helicopter near United Regional Hospital in downtown Wichita Falls, aircraft operator Air Evac Lifeteam revealed. The patient being transported from Waurika, Oklahoma, was killed in the crash, while a flight nurse died Oct. 8 of her injuries.
