Open-carry bill gets final Senate approval
With the bang of a gavel and a shouted "yeah!" heard from the gallery, the state Senate on Tuesday gave final approval to a bill that would legalize licensed open carry in Texas. After the upper chamber approved the proposal along partisan lines by a vote of 20-10, the proposal's sponsor doubled-down on remarks he made Monday, when he suggested that people afraid of guns should seek medical help.

Wichita Falls City Council Discusses Several Water Related Issues
The City Manager authorized an engineering Services Agreement with Freese & Nichols Inc. to prepare a water rights application for the proposed Lake Ringgold in an amount not to exceed $168,000.00. The Mayor said the Lake Ringgold project is a top priority, and that himself and the City Councilors, support this project.

The Wichita Falls City Council came to a resolution that awarded seven project based rental assistance Housing Choice Vouchers for a proposed affordable housing project located at 4620 Barnett Road named Reserves at Summit West. The builders of the new affordable housing project are going to be Overland Property Group.

Traffic Stop Leads to Meth Arrest
A missing driver's license and the failure to making a proper signal to turn lead to the arrest of two people, as well as Wichita Falls Police made the traffic stop at around 8:15 p.m. last night on Airport Road near the Central Freeway Access Road. Officers approached the Chrysler van and asked the driver, 29-year-old Pedro Suarez, for his driver's license.

WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Texas sued the United States on Wednesday, challenging Department of Labor rules that would make it recognize same-sex couples who were married in another state. Attorney General Ken Paxton claims that extending Family and Medical Leave Act benefits to same-sex couples would violate the Texas Constitution.

Texas Senate advances major gun legislation
You may soon be able to carry your concealed handgun into buildings on public university campuses in Texas and openly carry your handgun in most other public places around the state. As expected, the Senate on Thursday passed Senate Bill 11 by Sen. Brian Birdwell, R-Granbury, which puts the Lone Star State a step closer to requiring public colleges and universities to allow concealed handguns on campus.

Wet weather forecast to roll through weekend
After a rainy Friday, chances of rain in Denton and Denton County remain high throughout today, tapering off to a 20 percent chance of showers Sunday morning, said Jesse Moore, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Fort Worth. Residents can expect scattered showers and thunderstorms today that will increase in coverage tonight before the system causing this wet weather moves off to the east Sunday.
